Our first show in May 2005 was established because we at Osney Lodge Farm felt, as both regular exhibitors and farmers, that the existing Agricultural County Shows were fast losing their farming and country roots. They were simply drifting into becoming highly commercialised events, where the true interests of the visitors were being overlooked. What place, really, have jacuzzi’s, double glazing and adjustable beds got to an agricultural show. Even more, do you really want to pay to go and see them!!

In addition many of these shows have become prohibitively expensive to both exhibitors and visitors. The Blindley Heath Country Show was therefore started with a very clear edict. All trade stands to have a rural, farming or countryside connection, and any stands that did not comply with this would not be permitted. In addition all admission costs would be reasonable and food and drink offered for sale would be high quality at reasonable prices. Our idea has really worked! Last year around 100 trade stands enjoyed a great trade, with a gate of around 7,000 people and the atmosphere was fantastic.
